Mahmood Al-Yousif has over three decades of communications experience, particularly in the digital grass roots arena where he initiated one of the very first bulletin board systems and proceeded to connect the East and the West. Since then he continued to blaze the trail of citizen media by starting the first personal and professional blogs in the region, lectured at Princeton University and presented at the RAND Corporation and the Aspen Institute. He has an intimate knowledge of the Internet, particularly in its potential for reaching out and effective communications through authentic textual as well as video communications.

Mahmood established Gulf Broadcast in 1991 (then doing business as Computer Point) in November 1991 selling Apple computers to the printing and publishing industries and then progressed through to representing SGI (Silicon Graphics) and ultimately Avid Technology. Premier customers included Bahrain TV, Saudi TV and Kuwait TV as well as the higher-end of the production and post production houses in the region.

Believing that the computer industry was on the cusp of dramatic change in 2006, he pivoted his company from being a supplier of technology to one that uses it to create and retell stories. At the time, he changed the company’s name into what exists today; Gulf Broadcast, and continues to lead it into new territories.

Under his guidance, Gulf Broadcast transformed itself from a technology resale company through to a storyteller, an award winning video production house, website development and online reputation management company as well as being a publisher of an online television channel and printed advertising magazines.
