Gulf Broadcast produces Bahrain’s first Arabic FAST Stroke Awareness Video
Deeply believing in the power of video to raise awareness of critical issues, Gulf Broadcast embarked on the production of the first Arabic FAST Stroke Awareness video for RCSI Bahrain as part of our continued CSR effort.
Did you know that the incidence of stroke among Bahrainis has almost doubled since 1995?
Gulf Broadcast started a journey a year ago to bring to Bahrain the first arabic take on the FAST Stroke Awareness campaign. This production may very well save lives and that’s what we aim to do through our various CSR initiatives.
February 1st 2016, marked the official launch of the FAST stroke awareness video, produced by us for RCSI Bahrain in conjunction with Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC). The video is the first-of-its-kind for Bahrain and falls in line with the Ministry of Health’s opening of a dedicated stroke unit at SMC later this year.
According to Senior Psychology Lecturer, Dr Claire Donnelley’s findings, the incidence of stroke among Bahrainis has almost doubled since 1995 and, with an aging population, this trend is expected to continue.
Stroke patients in Bahrain were found to have a much higher prevalence of many of the risk factors for stroke – such as diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia – when compared with western comparators and, alarmingly, the Bahraini stroke population is ten years younger.
With many surviving the acute phase of stroke, a greater number of people with stroke will have to return, integrate and function in society and therefore, Bahrain will need to equip itself to handle the multivariate consequences that the burden of stroke will have on the community.
The FAST Stroke Awareness video is in Arabic – with English subtitles – and outlines the symptoms of stroke and how best to react in cases of stroke. It features well-known Bahraini actor, Hameed Karimi who played an amazing role in demonstrating the warning signs that can help you act FAST if your loved one suffers a stroke.
What sets this production apart from other FAST stroke awareness campaigns, is that we maintained the same urgency of the english mnemonic while making it relevant and easy to remember for arabic speaking viewers. The launch of the video follows on from the success of a similar public awareness film on CPR, that Gulf Broadcast produced for RCSI Bahrain in 2014, which was picked up and screened by Gulf Air on its in-flight entertainment system.
