BD300,000 media centre to be built
A new BD300,000 multi-purpose media centre is to be built at Bahrain University’s Sakhir campus.
The foundation stone was laid yesterday at a ceremony attended by Bahrain Radio and Television Corporation (BRTC) chief executive Khalil Al Thawadi.
He laid the stone on behalf of Information Minister Nabeel Al Hamer, along with university president Dr Shaikha Mariam bint Hassan Al Khalifa, College of Arts dean Dr Ibrahim Ghuloom, Bahrain Credit board chairman Abdulrahman Fakhro and senior university, Bahrain Credit and ministry officials.
The centre, run by the college, will include state-of-the-art media technology and is being paid for by Bahrain Credit as part of its community service programme. It is expected to be ready by October this year.
“This centre will provide the college’s information department with the chance to deal with the newest technologies in the field before students go into the labour market,” Mr Ghuloom told the Press yesterday. “Information today is not only concepts and theories – it is practice and training.”
The centre, said Mr Ghuloom, will cater to the needs and requirements of the ministry as it will produce news and cultural programmes, chat shows and drama to be broadcast on Bahrain TV or Radio. “A radio station will also broadcast and a newspaper will be produced in centre for students on campus,” he said.
“The centre includes a multi-purpose auditorium with a capacity for 300 people, studios and a training centre where courses will be conducted.”
