AVID BRINGS DNA AND INTEROPERABILITY TO IBC

IBC, Amsterdam – 12th September 2003 – Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID, has extended its Experience Avid|DNA Tour in Europe to include a stop at the 2003 International Broadcasting Convention. During the conference, Avid will demonstrate the revolutionary Avid DS Nitris™ system, host a series of training seminars and user group meetings, and display its Experience On-the-Road Coach – a mobile version of the Experience Avid|DNA Tour. A range of third-party exhibitors, including Panasonic, Sony, Sonic Solutions, Cisco Systems, Anystream, Seachange, JVC and the AAF Association/Pro-MPEG Forum, will also demonstrate interoperability with Avid products in their respective locations.

Sharing stand #7.631 with its audio division, Digidesign, Avid will offer attendees an in-depth look at the Avid DS Nitris system, featuring Avid DNA™ – the industry’s only hybrid architecture designed to leverage the power of both host-based software capabilities and hardware-based acceleration, and capable of delivering unparalleled performance that scales with the power of host CPUs. Expected to ship later this month, the Avid DS Nitris system is the most powerful in Avid’s family of nonlinear solutions. Throughout the show, customers will see the Avid DS Nitris system, running on an HP xw8000 CPU, delivering two streams of 10-bit high-definition media and eight streams of 10-bit uncompressed standard-definition media – both with multiple real-time effects.
“Since introducing the Avid DNA product line at NAB, we’ve visited 12 cities across Europe with the Experience Avid|DNA tour and have received a brilliant reception. We are kicking off phase two of the tour at IBC by focusing on Avid DS Nitris and the incredible real-time HD performance the DNA architecture provides,” said Graham Sharp, vice president of European sales and operations for Avid. “We are also displaying our Experience On-the-Road Coach, which is taking a break from its busy schedule showing our end-to-end digital news production solutions to broadcasters at their premises across Europe.”

During IBC, Avid will also host a number of ancillary events, including three one-hour training sessions held each day for customers interested in learning how to use Avid Xpress® Pro software (located in the IBC Training Village), and three Pan European User Group seminars for broadcast, postproduction editing, and Avid DS Nitris customers (located in Room B, RAI Complex, Saturday, 13 September).

Following IBC, European customers will have additional opportunities to learn more about Avid products as the Experience Avid|DNA Tour continues in select cities across Europe.
