New York Jets Pre-game Show Takes Avid Xpress DV On The Road
Weekly Pre-game Show Edited on Location with Avid Xpress DV and finished in New York Studio with Avid Symphony.
TEWKSBURY, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Nov. 4, 2002–Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID – News) today announced that B-TrainFilms, a leading New York City-based sports production company, is using Avid Xpress® DV software to create the weekly pre-game show, “Jets 24/7 with Herman Edwards,” for the New York Jets National Football League team. Producers on location with the team use laptop computers running Avid Xpress DV software to immediately digitize, log and edit footage of games, practices and team meetings. Rough-cuts are then sent back to New York City, where editors use an Avid® Symphony(TM) system to complete additional editing and finishing on the program and prepare it for broadcast on New York City’s CBS affiliate.
“Unlike other pre-game shows, we are given an all-access pass to cover the Jets, which is an amazing opportunity but also a production challenge. Each week, we capture up to fifteen hours of footage that must be quickly boiled down to a half-hour program,” said Bryan Delancey, executive vice president for B-TrainFilms. “Avid Xpress DV is a tremendous time saver because it allows us to take our editing bays with us wherever we go. As soon as we finish shooting the first tape, we log it and start editing with Avid Xpress DV.
“What makes our job even easier is the way Avid Xpress DV and Avid Symphony work together,” Delancey continued. “We started off using another editing software package, but much of the work we did on location had to be re-created within the Avid Symphony system. With Avid Xpress DV, all of our cuts, dissolves and titles carry through to the Symphony system, saving critical time within our extremely tight production schedule.”
The Production Timeline
“Jets 24/7 with Herman Edwards” is the Sunday morning lead-in to CBS Sports’ “NFL Today” and is designed to provide a weekly behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to prepare the Jets for an entire season. Each week’s production schedule starts on game day – either Sunday afternoon or Monday night – with the B-TrainFilms production team on the sidelines capturing footage of the game. Throughout the week, the crew also films practices and team meetings and conducts one-on-one interviews with coaches and players. By mid-week the editing process is in full swing, with files being handed off to the Symphony system continuously. The production team uses the Avid Symphony system to finish editing and prepare the program for broadcast, including extensive color correction to match a variety of shots from multiple cameras at different locations. Finally, at the end of the week, the finished program is output from the Symphony system at 1:1 resolution for Sunday’s broadcast.
